SceneToScreen is the homepage for a small independent script writing team. Well, when I say team I am actually referring to 'me'. And when I say 'me' I am referring to one 'Steve Raby'. I have had a passion for films and screenwriting for as long as I can remember and over time I have written a number of scripts. Some I am proud of and some I would prefer to forget! At present you can read 2 of my shorts in the 'My Screenplays' section. My hope is that through this website I may get the chance to expand my portfolio of work by either assisting others with their writing or possibly even being hired to write for an aspiring director.

A few years ago I joined the British Film Institute along with a friend of mine. hoping that I could get to know some other people with a passion for film equal to my own. It was only when I posted an ad on their notice board asking for feedback on a short script I had written that I felt like a real screenwriter. People were genuinely interested in reading my work and that was something that I hadn't experienced before.

The ad was for a short called 'Turn Turtle' and the response was phenomenal! Suddenly people actually wanted to make this film. I was getting calls here there and everywhere and the script was being passed around the underground filmmaking circuit faster than I could follow it! Buzz on the whole concept was incredible and before I knew it I had 2 great actors, Craig Robert Young and Guy Winfield cast in the lead roles, a very talented crew eager to be a part of it and even the loan of some very 'High End' equipment for free as another film company didn't need it for its last two days of rental.

All sound too good to be true? It was. At the very last minute I was informed of a date change for the start of filming and with so many 'in demand' people involved I just couldn't manage to re-schedule to everyone's convenience. We lost the equipment and the shoot fell through. Naturally enthusiasm waned after so many months of preparation but my passion remains as strong as ever.

Now, I realize that I was taking on more than I could handle. I had gone from amateur script writer to a writer/director, in charge of everything from continuity to costume design overnight and that is not where my heart lies. I tell stories and I would love to see them brought to life. So, if you are an aspiring director that would like to help make that happen then I would love to hear from you! And of course it is always nice to hear from fellow film enthusiasts so don't be shy. Write to me! You can email me by clicking on the link in the main menu.
